Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest healing systems, developed in India over 5,000 years ago. The word comes from Sanskrit, with "Ayur" meaning life and "Veda" meaning knowledge. It is a holistic science that helps us live in harmony with nature, the seasons, and our inner rhythms. Closely connected to yoga, Ayurveda supports the body while yoga guides the mind and spirit. Together, they form a complete path to wellness.
What makes Ayurveda so powerful is its focus on individuality. Each person is born with a unique mind-body constitution called a dosha: Vata, Pitta, or Kapha. These doshas carry specific qualities such as hot or cold, light or heavy, dry or oily. Your constitution acts like a personal thumbprint, offering guidance on what brings you balance and what creates stress. Ayurveda recognizes that your needs are not fixed. They shift day by day, even hour by hour, which is why the practice encourages tuning in and responding intuitively.
Ayurveda is centered around prevention. Instead of waiting for illness to occur, it teaches you how to notice subtle imbalances before they become deeper issues. Through food, rest, movement, and self-awareness, you learn how to return to balance in ways that feel sustainable and aligned. At Fresh Ayurveda, I offer personalized, preventative care that honors your unique nature and helps you build a life of clarity, vitality, and intention.
Vata is the energy of movement. It is creative, expressive, and full of motion. When imbalanced, Vata types may experience anxiety, digestive issues, dryness, or fatigue. They benefit from grounding routines, warmth, and nourishing foods that bring a sense of stability and calm.
Support with: warm grains, root vegetables, ghee, cooked meals, bananas, dairy, and spiced teas like ginger or cinnamon.
Limit: raw salads, dry snacks, cold drinks, caffeine, and bitter or astringent foods.
Kapha is the energy of stability. It is steady, nurturing, and calming. Those with a Kapha constitution are often deeply grounded, but when out of balance, may feel sluggish, heavy, or stuck. Kapha does best with stimulation, variety, and foods that are light and energizing.
Support with: warm and spicy meals, lentils, leafy greens, apples, turmeric, and stimulating herbal teas.
Limit: dairy, fried foods, sugar, salty snacks, and cold or creamy items like ice cream and yogurt.
